BACKGROUND
Our business (first as International Gem Services, then International Gem Services, Inc. and now, IGS Diamonds, Inc.) has been in continuous operation here in Northern Virginia for 40 years. Ed Czarnetzky, Jr. represents the third generation of our family in this industry. Many years as wholesalers have given us great familiarity with the markets and great respect in the diamond community.

1. WE ARE DIAMOND PEOPLE —NOT MERCHANDISERS
Every diamond that leaves our door represents our reputation, quality and value. You won’t find a greater concentration of knowledge or a freer willingness to share it.
2. INVENTORY
The make or break nature of inventory is more critical in this business than any other. Shrewd rough and finished stone buying, quality considerations and financial management must be blended carefully to yield a result of benefit to you, the customer as well as IGS.
3. REPRESENTATION OF INVENTORY
Many online sites are listing diamonds that are generally owned by other companies and have no understanding in many cases what the diamond even looks like. Our site represents a mixture of “ideal” and “non-ideal” cut stones of our own and companies that we have established long relationships with. Each diamond that a customer selects is checked to make sure it passes our internal checklist for quality and value.
4. GRADING WITHIN A GRADE
The consideration of color and clarity assuming a well-made diamond is in reality a generality. More and less desirable diamonds exist within any clarity or color grade. We grade within a grade and can show you, for example, how much more desirable one VS-2 clarity diamond can be over another VS-2 clarity diamond. How much more desirable a diamond with a white imperfection is than one with a black imperfection. Even diamonds that have side imperfections are picked where we can put a prong over the inclusion.
